Guidelines Repairing for Vernacular Wooden Houses in Sakon Nakhon Old town

Abstract

The objective of this research was to examine the condition of vernacular wooden houses in Sakon Nakhon old town and suggest repair methods in accordance with conservation guidelines; scope of study was 7 one-story wooden houses and 24 two-story wooden houses, total of 31 units. Located on both sides of Charoen Muang Road, Makkalai Road, Jai Phasuk Road and Ruang Sawat Road. The results showed that structural damage is the decay of the bunting; the house-collapsed column has a tilt and cracks along the splinter, wooden poles and roof batten, architectural damage is damaged walls, floors, frames, door panels and eaves. The damage to the house is still within the allowable criteria of the Department of Public Works and Town & Country Planning for the method of repairing the collapsed structure using lifting and ejecting techniques and strengthening the new base architectural repair methods are used to replace the original material or imitate it. By maintaining the style that represents the uniqueness of the wooden houses in this area. This research is the starting point for preserving valuable architecture in the historic district, which can be linked to the tourist attractions of Sakon Nakhon Province
