Characteristics of target students of the master program in environmental and water resources engineering (International Program) at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Mahidol University

Abstract

Presently, graduate study programs in Thailand are facing high competition, from inside the same university, other universities and abroad. The identification of target market is therefore especially important for recruiting incoming qualified students. This study is aimed to analyze the samples of students who attended the master study program in environmental and water resources engineering at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Mahidol University during 2553 – 2562 B.E. school years. The database from the program and the Graduate School were used for the analysis. The results show that majority of student age is between 22 – 30 years old. Most of them are recently graduates less than 2 years. There are more male than female students. The program has about 33.33% international students. Most of them were from the Southeast Asian countries and received some form of financial scholarship. Their bachelor’s degrees are diversified. About 22.22% of them have a civil engineering degree. Almost all of them are our civil engineering alumni. The results imply that alumni is an important target market for the program and financial scholarship is an effective recruiting tool. This study helps the program to strategically plan its recruitment.
