Application of Point Cloud for Supporting Quality Inspection

Several areas of the quality inspection of floor, wall, and ceiling in building construction projects contains items used to evaluate, measurement methods and evaluation criteria. Items for flatness measurement may use a calibration tool against criterion or using eyesight to assess flatness. However, personal instrumental and visual inspection may take some time and become uncertain due to the large amount of floor, wall and ceiling work. Measurement tools necessary to take the time to check. In addition, the visual inspection has limited eyesight and sensation. Which is unable to quantify all possible defects. Therefore, this paper presents an automated system for support wall inspection by using Point Cloud. This system can more quickly defect the flatness of such work by using the mode of interest axis to determine the plane. The inspection of wall flatness was chosen as a case study for developing a prototype of the system. This paper describes the conceptual framework of the proposed system's application and the methodology of the system's development. It includes a field verification of the potential and accuracy of developed prototype system by comparing the results of traditional inspection methods and those of the proposed system. A potential benefit of the system is a concept for developing standards for the quality inspection of floor, wall and ceiling flatness.
