A study on properties of mortar made from plastic straw waste
Abstract
Nowadays, the problem of plastic waste strongly increases because of the popularity of rising consumption, especially single-use plastic waste. Therefore, the objective of this research is to use plastic straw waste as the fine aggregate replacement and fiber reinforcement in mortar. The plastic straw waste will be used to replace the natural sand at 0, 5, 10, and 15 percent by volume of the fine aggregate. The test will be divided into 2 parts: general mortar testing and testing of fiber cement sheets. For the first part, the test includes compressive strength, flexural strength, water absorption, and mortar fluidity. For the second past, the test consists of the flexural strength of the fiber cement board, leakage resistance, and apparent density. The test results will be compared with the controlled sample without plastic waste. The results of this study present alternatives to plastic waste management and used to recycle plastic waste in the construction material.
