The Effect of Cement and Polymer Admixtures on the Compressive Strength of Lateritic soil Used for Base Layer

Abstract

The study of the effect from cement replacement with polymer admixture added with lateritic soil for use in a base layer by using the unconfined compressive strength test with designed specimens. The test will be performed on lateritic soil mixed with Portland cement type I at 0, 2, 4, 6 and 8 percent by weight of lateritic soil, respectively, to find the minimum cement content that causes the lateritic soil to have compressive strength following the Department of Highways standards. In addition, it adds polymer admixture in lateritic soil mixed with cement by polymer admixture content at 2, 7, 6 and 8 percent by weight of cement, respectively. The result of samples with polymer admixture tends to be higher than the lateritic soil mixed with cement in the compressive strength. As well as comparing other effects between lateritic soils mixed with cement and polymer admixture and lateritic soils mixed with cement only in the same values of compressive strength. Likely, the cost of lateritic soil mixed with cement and polymer admixture tend to be cheaper than the cost of lateritic soil mix with cement only that has the same compressive strength value.
