Abstract

Expressway Authority of Thailand (EXAT) has analyzed the traffic congestion on Chalong Rat Expressway caused by accumulated congestion from Pradit Manudharm Road (Kaset - Nawamin Exit Ramp) and the best solution is drawing solid lines on the exit ramp area. Therefore, EXAT has implemented the solution on Chalong Rat Expressway and has evaluated the result between before and after the implementation, indicating that the traffic on Chalong Rat Expressway is more flowing after the implementation. However, there are some solid line violations, causing the solution to be less effective than expected. To create more sustainable solution, including efficiency and enforcement, EXAT uses Automatic Lane Control System to manage traffic in the area with automatic system and become a model for other areas, which reduces the workload of traffic control officers. Moreover, the system can operate 24 hours a day. EXAT expects the system to work more efficiently, as well as to reduce violators and multiple accidents from the traffic condition, as user can receive accident information via Variable message sign (VMS).
