Development of the Construction Millionaire Board Game to enhance knowledge and interest in construction management

Abstract

A large number and variety of problems in small-scale construction lead most of the new engineers cannot to be aware of these problems in all aspects. This article presents the development of the Construction Millionaire Board Game to enhance knowledge and interest in construction management. Construction knowledge in the board game consists of factors affecting construction management, such as manpower, money, machine, materials, and management. It also includes various problems in housing construction, building construction, and road construction. In addition, this board game provides a sample exam of the Council of Engineers which is used for preparing examinations for the License for Professional Practice (Associate Civil Engineer). Moreover, there are also challenge cards that will increase the excitement throughout the game. The board game was tested by twenty civil engineering students in each level from the first- to the fourth- year. The results indicated that the majority of students were able to pass the Council of Engineers exams more and were also increasing their knowledge of construction problems. However, the construction problems in this board game are some of the problems that arise in construction projects. Therefore, more construction problems should be collected and added to the board game so that the players are aware of these problems and can apply them to work effectively.
