Abstract

Nowadays, the amount of plastic waste is increasing. One of the reasons is that most people order food to eat at home instead of eating at restaurants to avoid the epidemic of COVID-19. The objective of this research is to use recycled plastic waste as the aggregate replacement in concrete and geopolymer concrete. The polypropylene plastic waste will be used to replace the natural coarse aggregate at 0, 10, 30 and 50 percent. Testing program includes slump flow, setting time, compressive strength, flexural strength, and splitting tensile strength of the concrete and geopolymer concrete. The test results will be compared with those of controlled concrete without recycled plastic aggregate. The results of this research inroduce the application of using recycled plastic waste in constrction materials and will help reducing the amount of  plastic waste needed to be disposed.
