Abstract

This research objective is to study the seismic behavior of reinforced concrete buildings with added viscoelastic wall dampers and viscoelastic properties of Asphalt and PIB (Polyisobutene) which is used in viscoelastic wall dampers. Even though at present many dampers can efficiently reduce dynamic response in building, their material, maintenance and installation cost is very expensive compared to the other method that can also reduce the dynamic response; furthermore, damper size is very large result in a poor aesthetic of the building. Therefore, in this research, viscoelastic wall dampers with asphalt and PIB as viscoelastic materials are developed which can replace the existing wall so it doesn’t affect the architectural design and have a cheaper price. By develop a mathematical model of viscoelastic wall dampers from the damper’s prototype test in the laboratory, it can apply to nonlinear response time history analysis in a tall building by using the ETABS program. High-rise residential building 40 floors with 122.15 m., 37.25 m. and 78.4 m. in tall, width and depth respectively is used for example building. This analytical method is set up to compare the response between the original structure and retrofitting structure with viscoelastic wall damper to ensure the performance of viscoelastic wall damper in the improvement of seismic response and economical value.
