Abstract

Silty sand is another main problem soil type found in various parts of the world, its stiffness and high bearing capacity in dry soil conditions. But on the other hand, if the silty sand comes in contact with water there is a huge risk of failure because soil that in a saturate condition or partially saturate condition lose strength and lose stiffness under applied load. The soil a solid change behavior a liquid: results in excess pore pressure, lateral displacement, settlement and slop failure. Most of behaviors are found in silty sand saturated condition and loose condition. This research aim at investigates the performance of silty sand ground improvement vibro stone column under consolidation condition, the dimeter difference (50, 75, and
100 millimeter) and the relative density difference (0, 40, 70, and 100 percent). The test resulting, it was found that large dimeter stone column accelerates the consolidation rate of silty sand various, reducing the difference of settlement and stress on soil due to high area replacement ratio. In addition, the stone column is increased bearing capacity, increase soil stability and reducing liquefaction due to high porosity of stone column are increase drainage.
