Abstract

This research is to analyze root causes of accidents from large building construction projects. Accidents from construction industry are more danger to both life and property losses than other industries. Although construction company has implemented a safety management system to prevent accidents. However, it is difficult to prevent the accidents effectively. This research aims (1) to study and analyze causes of accidents, and (2) to present guidelines for construction accident prevention. This research collects data from 20 construction projects in which they have areas more than 2,000 square meters. All of them are in Bangkok and surrounding provinces. The interviews and questionnaires were distributed to 3 groups of people. They are 20 project managers, 100 construction workers, and 40 engineers or security officers. The questionnaires are different for each group of people. The results of this study revealed various causes of accidents caused by the operation of workers. The problems and causes of accidents found in this study could be used to present guidelines and methods to reduce construction accidents in future construction projects.
